WatchGuard XCS 9.2 Update 1 Goes GA Today!

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the effectiveness of WatchGuard XCS appliances to protect from data loss, new viruses and malware, and to enhance HTTPS web security, WatchGuard is pleased to announce the availability of XCS 9.2 Update 1.

The availability of this newest version of the software is being announced today to WatchGuard customers and will be available for download from the Software Center.

Highlights of this maintenance release include:

§  Simplification of SecureMail Email Encryption Deployment With Removal of Mandatory User Naming:  The requirement to upload lists of authorized email encryption users has been removed from the XCS SecureMail Email Encryption feature.  The number of users allowed to use SecureMail Email Encryption is based on your license limit.

§  Email Encryption at the Click of A Button with “Send SecureMail” Outlook Add-In:   A convenient Outlook Add-In is now available that allows end users to place an email encryption button in their Outlook toolbar to put themselves personally in control of protecting confidential messages with a simple click of the encryption button.

§  Outlook 2010 Add-In for Spam/Not Spam Reporting: Now available for placing Spam and Not Spam buttons on your Microsoft Outlook toolbar for reporting any spam messages or false positives.  Also available are Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 Add-Ins.

§  New Adaptive Intercept Anti-Spam Decision Strategy:  Removes the guesswork out of managing your anti-spam decision strategy with transparent transition of spam scoring upon successful training of the system, provide the strongest anti-spam capture rate and the prevention of false positives.

§  Mail Engine Upgrade Improves Performance & Security:  The Postfix mail engine has been upgraded to the latest version, providing significant improvements to mail processing performance and security.

§  Detection of JavaScript in PDF Files:  You can now block the transmission of PDF documents containing JavaScript code, providing enhanced protection from malicious code that is increasingly being delivered via PDF and can infect a machine since the JavaScript code can be executed when a user opens the file in a PDF reader.

§  Anti-Virus Scanning & Pattern Update For Latest Protection:  The Kaspersky Anti-Virus scanning and pattern update engines have been upgraded to the latest version to provide enhanced protection against the latest virus, spyware, and malware threats.

§  Delivery Status Notifications (DSN):  Customers can now configure Delivery Status Notification messages with their XCS appliance for successful, delayed, or failed message deliveries.  Delivery notifications are very helpful for troubleshooting email delivery issues.

§  Configurable From: and Subject: Notification Headers:  Notification messages can now be configured to include the “Subject” and “From” header text so that end users and administrators have enhanced visibility into message tracking and processing.

§  Global TLS Inbound and Outbound Settings:  TLS encryption settings can now be applied globally for both inbound and outbound TLS connections.

§  Web Security Expanded With HTTPS Scanning:  The XCS Web Security subscription now includes scanning of HTTPS traffic for web-based threats and data loss.  The XCS Web Proxy can now perform deep content inspection of encrypted HTTPS traffic using the same scanners as the HTTP proxy, such as Anti-Virus, the Objectionable Content Filters, Reputation Enabled Defense, and Content Scanning.  This new functionality allows customers to extend enforcement of data security policies by now scanning HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP web traffic.

§  Bug Fixes:  This release also includes many bug fixes.  Please refer to the Release Notes for additional information.
