Releases XCS 9.2
For All XCS Appliances

WatchGuard is very pleased to announce the release of WatchGuard
XCS version 9.2 for all XCS Extensible Content Security
appliances.
WatchGuard XCS 9.2 includes significant enhancements to our
award-winning WatchGuard XCS Extensible Content Security solutions.
This release includes enhancements in virtually all areas of
functionality for XCS email and web security, as well as data loss
prevention.
The key advancements of XCS 9.2 include, but are not limited
to:
Ease of Use: Management Made Easy:
- Enhanced Installation Wizard: Web configuration added to
Installation Wizard when XCS Web Security subscription is licensed
- New Frequent Tasks Screen: provides access to common
configuration and management tasks; ensures fool-proof setup and
fast access to frequent management tasks
- DLP Wizard: accessible via Frequent Tasks screen, customers
are guided through the process of setting up content controls and
can set up DLP rules in minutes; a great get-started tool for
customers who want to take advantage of the XCS DLP functionality
but don’t know how to get started
- QMS Wizard: provides fool-proof integration with WatchGuard
QMS; note: QMS must be set up BEFORE using the wizard
- Message Details Page Redesigned: enhanced visibility into
message details with graphical display of scan results and message
disposition actions; ability to allow or block senders or domains
directly from message details page
- New Message Tracking Tool: new system variable allows queue ID
of a message to be inserted into notifications and annotations for
tracking and audit purposes
- Internationalization of Attachment Names; XCS supports
internationalization of attachment names in message database
views, including message history, message details, logs and
reports
- Multiple Software Updates Management: customers can install or
remove multiple software updates at the same time; XCS determines
any software dependency issues and installs/removes the updates in
the proper order
- Default Message History and Summary Reporting Days Extended;
new default values for XCS reporting configuration are message
history: 14 days, and reporting summary: 62 days
- Web Bandwidth Dashboard and Report: Web Bandwidth Usage
visibility now appears on the Web Summary Dashboard as well in the
Web Analysis Report
Expanded Spam Protection:
- Spam Rules: New signature-based anti-spam extends spam
protection beyond knowledge-based learning system; provides
proactive protection from new variants of spam
Improved DLP Protection:
- Content Rules Enhancements: new granular DLP tools For More
Complex Privacy & Compliance Requirements
- Attachment Control Simplification: attachment control
enhancements reduces number of steps required to set up attachment
control features, and ability to apply bi-directional actions in a
single UI screen
- Per-Rule Notification: provides mechanism to allow
notifications on a per rule basis
- Expanded “In-Dictionary” Match: customers can now scan content
for “In-Dictionary” match, providing users with the ability to
apply terms within dictionaries to content rules within content
scanning conditions
- Nested Rules: customers can now nest rules within one another;
can create any number of groupings and apply nested conditions
within each grouping
- “Not” Option for Content Scanning Rules: “Not” option has been
added to the available list of conditional operators within XCS
content controls, expanding the list to now include AND, OR, and
NOT
XCS Web Security Subscription Enhancements:
- New XCS Web Proxy: provides improved stability and performance
- FTP Scanning: can now scan FTP traffic that is passed over
HTTP
- Uncategorized URLs: ability to block uncategorized URLs with a
simple check-box to protection from potentially malicious or
compromised uncategorized URLs
- Bypass URL Categorization Scanning: allows customers to
specify web domains that bypass URL categorization; can create
list of websites to make sure they are not blocked by URL
categorization
- Ability to disable HTTP OCF and Content Scanning: customers
can now enable or disable OCF and content scanning independently
for inbound and outbound web traffic
- Flush URL from Web Cache: problematic URLs can be flushed from
the web cache if they do not load or refresh properly
- Web Caching Improvements: new enhancements including preview
scanning, early response, client request, and policy caching
improve scanning efficiency
Migration to 64-Bit OS
- With XCS 9.2, we have migrated to a 64-bit OS of our
Reputation Enabled Defense nodes, providing faster performance and
stronger protection for our customers.
Does This Release Pertain to Me?
WatchGuard XCS 9.2 is a major feature release and significant
maintenance release over XCS 9.1. If you wish to take advantage of
any of the updates listed above, or those mentioned in the Release
Notes, you should consider upgrading to version 9.2. Please read
the Release
Notes before you upgrade to understand what's involved, as you
will be required to backup and restore your configuration to upgrade
to version 9.2.

WatchGuard XCS customers who have a current LiveSecurity Service
subscription can obtain this update without additional charge by
downloading the applicable packages from the Software
Downloads web page, which also includes clear installation
