StarSign® Bio Token 3.0 la nueva frontera en biométricos (inglés)

Eutron announces a collaboration agreement with Giesecke & Devrient, an international group which sees to the development and production of smart cards, telecommunication systems, electronic payment solutions and security applications. The aim of the highly innovative project which saw the two companies strongly involved side by side was that of launching the StarSign® Bio Token 3.0, a new device that will allow for the secure authentication by means of fingerprint recognition. The two companies having signed a work and supply agreement, G&D will also work together with Eutron in marketing the product through Eutron's worldwide sales channels.

G&D has chosen Eutron, a well-known company in the field of electronic engineering and IT security solutions, as partner to industrialize the solution. G&D created this innovative product idea, worked out the concept, supplies the smart card operating system and the fingerprint functionality as well as the corresponding middleware, with applications like Windows logon, e-mail security, encryption and other PKI-based applications. Eutron has been commissioned for the hardware design and production as well as the implementation of the whole USB functionality on the host and the device side.

The agreement reached by the two companies demonstrates a further step forward in the increase of security standards concerning authentication. G&D re-launches the biometrics onto a market, which is more mature, and ever more demanding with regards to further improving the corporate security systems for the access to sensitive information.

The product, which will be officially presented at Cebit 2005, combines the new swipe technology biometric sensors integrated into a USB token mounting a Philips smart card chip and G&D mask.

This so called Bio Token combines for the first time a smart card, a fingerprint sensor with image processing ASIC and verification software in one single embedded device. This next generation smart token technology provides a complete system for personal identification and digital signature creation. Additional Hardware is not required. Your portable digital ID cannot be misused due to the biometric authentication.

The operation is simple; pursuant to the passing of the finger, the relative fingerprint of the user is scanned by the biometric sensor that transmits the image directly to an integrated chip for subsequent recognition. This way, the possibility that the data is passed to the PC or obtained by an external biometric scanner is avoided, therefore, preventing unauthorised copying of the template.

StarSign® BioToken 3.0 is only slightly bigger than a USB key and will allow to avail of its own characteristics to the PKI system in order to guarantee a high level of authentication to the corporate network and digital signature of documents. The product has been developed with the aim in mind of the user always carrying it on his key ring; it is therefore supplied with a sliding scratchproof casing that protects the sensor and the USB connector.
