CP Secure saca su Content Security Gateway (CSG) 1000 (inglés)

CP Secure, a leading innovator in anti-virus technologies, today announced that it will ship the Content Security Gateway (CSG) 1000, its first truly enterprise-scale product, in January 2005. This event marks the first opportunity for larger organizations to benefit from CP Secure’s patent-pending stream-based, multi-protocol approach to virus protection at the Internet gateway.

    Traditional vs. Stream-based Scanning

Traditional gateway virus protection employs random access-based algorithms that state data to be scanned is stored to disk and can be randomly accessed. While this approach remains valid for protection against viruses transmitted via removable media, it can create significant delays, since scanning commences only after the entire file is received, and outputting occurs only after the entire file has been scanned.

However, since most viruses propagate via the network, and network data travels in streams, applying a stream-based approach to virus scanning makes a lot more sense. In stream-based scanning, traffic is scanned in real time as the stream enters the network. The scan engine analyzes traffic as the stream enters the network; using a multi-threaded approach, receiving, scanning and outputting processes occur concurrently. Thus, network performance is not impacted, traffic spikes can be easily withstood, and the result is virus scanning that’s five times faster than the traditional approach.

Early adopter Thomas Schone, IT manager at Wilhelm Koch GmbH, a manufacturer and supplier of plumbing devices in Osnabrueck, Germany, is very satisfied with the results he’s been getting from a beta CSG 1000: “We’re proud to use an anti-virus solution of this caliber. The CSG 1000 provides 100 percent protection against viruses at the Internet gateway, and is able to process increasingly larger data loads without slowing down our network. It is extremely easy to use and is saving us several hours in administration time each week. We particularly like its reporting tools, which provide a convenient summary of network activity at any given time.”

Key benefits of the CSG 1000

The CSG 1000 features an LCD display and keypad for ease of configuration and at-a-glance status information. Each dual-CPU box can process over 340,000 emails per hour using parallel processing to maximize throughput, and a hardware bypass option is included so that, in the event of hardware failure, all traffic flowing through the appliance is unaffected. In addition to SMTP, the CSG 1000 also scans FTP, HTTP, POP, and IMAP traffic, working at Layers 3 to 7 to preserve valuable connection information.

"The CSG 1000 is positioned to radically improve the security, performance, and economics of network virus protection," said David Lu, President and CEO of CP Secure. "In addition to the proven benefits of stream-based scanning, our unique support tunnel enables rapid and seamless remote technical support.

“With the addition of the CSG 1000 to our product range, we can now deliver next-generation virus protection that’s appropriate for any size of organization, no matter what level of IT skill is available in house.”
