Norman avisa de severos ataques de virus el pasado 29/10 (inglés)
Thousands of computers throughout Scandinavia have been under attack from two new strains of the Bagle computer virus. Mail servers in Norway and Denmark have blocked vast numbers of e-mails containing the Bagle AQ virus. In addition, a second virus named Bagle AR is also reported to be spreading rapidly. The anti virus company Norman has given the virus its highest hazard rating and are advising computer users to upgrade their antivirus programs immediately
Norman provided definition files to stop Bagle AQ early Friday morning. Throughout the day the virus has spread rapidly and as such Norman has listed this as a high risk threat.
The Bagle worm spreads by means of e-mail and through peer-to-peer networks such as Kazaa. The virus is distributed from a false sender address in an attachment that has the file suffix .com, .cpl, .exe or .scr.
It is currently not known how much damage has been caused by the virus. Once a computer has been infected, the Bagle virus sends virus-infected mail to addresses in the host's address book and other registers. It also creates a backdoor into the computer so that third parties can gain access to information stored on the machine
Norman is monitoring the extent of the attack and the damage caused by both new variants. All Norman customers who have updated as of noon on Friday are protected against these threats and Norman reiterate that all computer users should update their anti virus software immediately.
